The Island
Florianopolis is located on the South East coast of Brazil. There are approximately 400,000 people living on the Island, and in the summer this number triples. It is one of Brazils most popular holiday destinations, and understandably so.
It has 451 square kilometers of beautiful landscapes and 42 beaches scattered along the Island’s coastline. The average temperature is 20,4C with max of 40C and min of 3C. One thing is for sure, you definitely won’t be stuck for things to do. There are kilometers of stunning coastline to be explored.
Along the East Coast you will find some of the most well known surfing beaches in Brazil, one being Praia Mole. Mole is famous for the surf and the beautiful people that frequent its shores. It is a hive of Brazilian culture. Soaking up the sun here is an event in itself with an endless choice of icy caipirinhinas, fresh fruit smoothies, delicious homemade snacks, not to mention clothing, jewellery, art & crafts.
Joaquina beach is mostly family orientated and hosts a big surf event every year, the WCT (World Championship Tour). There are many beachfront restaurants to chose from where you can enjoy the huge variety of freshly caught seafood dishes. Joaquina is ideal for long walks, taking in the fresh sea air and gorgeous views. Mocambique, Galleta (naturalist), Campeche & Barra da Lagoa are other beaches worth a visit
On the West Coast there are yet more beaches, Jurere, Canasvieiras, Inglêses, Daniela, Praia do Forte, all perfect for lazy summer days or the hustle & bustle of the Brazilian zest for life (especially during season, Dec-Mar).
In the City Centre a must see is the Hercílio Luz Bridge, built over 70years ago and beautiful at night when lit up. The Public Market and the Fish Market are packed with charm, culture and some great buys. You will be able to see the amazing quantity and variety of fresh seafood and wide range of typical Brazilian cuisine products.
Just a few metres from the Public market you will be able to see the old colonial Portuguese style houses and buildings which give the city an authentic, rustic feel.
